Is this good for an opening paragraph of an article I’m writing (Critique needed)?

During the second world war there were many brave soldiers who lost their lives fighting for their queen and country. Many more would have lost their lives if it wasn’t for a brave few, who against all the odds risked their rank and lives to return the wounded back home to be reunited with their loved ones. One of these brave few men happens to be my great granddad, ninety two year old Hugh Larmour. My great granddad may look like any other elderly person to an outsider but he has medals and a remarkable story to show for his life.

The begining is not very catchy would do that it also depends on who you are writing for.
